...what is particularly impressive is the way in which Komachi and Callaghan’s interpretations of the music compliment each other with perfect synergy. They move as one through the textures, emotions and intricacies of each piece, reacting to tempo, dynamic, and phrase markings with almost telepathic symmetry, producing a rare sound that is both accurate and researched, while having not lost any originality or sense of connection to the music.

With Midori Komachi (violin)

Released as part of RVW150, the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams's birth, this album gives a complete view of his works for violin and piano — music that spans, and illuminates, his whole compositional development. Midori Komachi and Simon Callaghan have performed and researched twentieth-century British music together to critical acclaim, and Komachi's booklet notes draw on extensive work in the manuscript archives. The booklet also carries photographs taken with the artists at Leith Hill Place, Vaughan Williams's childhood home, which provided both the inspiration and the setting for a music video of the Romance filmed by the two performers. The CD is available in English and Japanese editions.
