It completes his survey of Carl Reinecke's concertos with the Third in C major and the Konzertstück in G minor, and pairs them with the Second Concerto of Emil von Sauer — a Liszt pupil who was among the most admired pianists of his generation, and who wrote for the instrument with a virtuoso's understanding of what it can be made to do.
