With Clare Howick (violin)

A programme built on the traffic between English and French music at the turn of the twentieth century, when composers on either side of the Channel were listening hard to the other. The Debussy and John Ireland sonatas anchor it, with the Violin Sonata in B major by Delius — an Englishman who spent most of his life in France — at its centre. Around them sit shorter pieces: Cyril Scott's Cherry Ripe and his Valse caprice in A. W. Kramer's arrangement, and two Heifetz transcriptions, Ravel's Vocalise-étude en forme de habanera and Bax's Mediterranean. It followed Clare Howick and Simon Callaghan's well-received British Violin Sonatas for the same label.
