Premiered by the composer at Wigmore Hall in 1909, Cyril Scott's First Sonata, Op. 66, is a large-scale work that offers as clear a glimpse of his own playing as anything he left. Its restless changes of time signature are said to have influenced Stravinsky; Debussy admired Scott's music, and Percy Grainger played this sonata many times in recital. Simon Callaghan follows the monumental sonata with two shorter, lyrical pieces by Scott, presented as encores.
