With Clare Howick (violin)

The British violin sonata has never held the standing of the country's orchestral, choral or solo vocal music, which is part of why so much of this repertoire went unrecorded for so long. Clare Howick and Simon Callaghan take six figures from the twentieth-century chamber renaissance in Britain: Walton's Sonata, written for Menuhin; Kenneth Leighton's First; Alwyn's Sonatina; Rawsthorne's Pierette; two pieces from Lennox Berkeley's Op. 33; and three short works by Gordon Jacob — the Elegy, Caprice and Little Dancer — recorded here for the first time.
