British Piano Concertos, Volume 3
2 May 2025
Volume 3 of my British Piano Concertos series with Lyrita is released today. This time the music comes from three composers who moved between the concert hall, the radio studio and the film studio: Philip Cannon, John Addison and Francis Chagrin. We recorded it with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and William Boughton at Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff.
Addison wrote Conversation Piece for the BBC Concert Orchestra in 1958, at a time when he felt serious and light music had drifted too far apart. He once told an audience he wouldn't mind if they smiled, and I hope you will too.
